1. Install the Jargon Software tools

1.1 Install Jargon Writer on a development PC

Run the Jargon Writer install program (a standard "InstallShield" procedure).

Select the installation directory and Start menu group, and away it goes.

1.2 Install Jargon Reader on end-user WPDA devices
This creates a "Jargon Reader" menu choice.

1.3 Install Jargon client/host interface library on server
Install the Jargon interface library on your application server. This library contains a set of procedures which provide interfaces that handle the low-level 'busy work' of parsing input and formatting output. The library sits "between" the middleware and the business logic procedures and handles all the input and output communications with the client. These interface routines:
  • Parse and hand off inbound data values from the client to the host business procedures
  • Format data and commands sent from the business procedures back to the client, in a special compact layout to provide the highest efficiency.
For Progress environments, this library contains a set of 4GL "include" files.

For Oracle environments, this library contains a set of PL/SQL stored procedures.

For WebSphere environments, this library is a "jar" file containing a set of Java classes.
