Good Things Come in Threes !! This is issue #3 of Jargon's Tech Newsletter, designed to inform our clients, business partners and other interested parties about the latest news, advice and helpful hints from our technical group. Jargon To Present Breakout Session on RFID Progress Exchange - Orlando, Florida - June 7, 2005 If you will be attending the Progress Users' Exchange in Orlando June 5-8th, plan to attend Jargon CEO Richard Rubenstein's breakout session on RFID and mobile apps. Handheld and mobile devices enable RFID to operate in the
field, opening exciting new possibilities. Combining RFID with the
ability to work effectively offline or online leads to mobile solutions
that exceed expectations.
This breakout session examines a mobile RFID case study.
Current hardware limitations are explored.
Attendees get their hands on a working RFID solution. The session focuses on the code necessary on the mobile device and the backend host to make all this work, while keeping development and deployment costs low. The case study involves handheld RFID on the shop floor of a jewelry manufacturer who must keep track of thousands of small finished products. RFID is used to count and categorize these small items. A user walks near a bin containing dozens or hundreds of parts. With a single tap of a stylus, all the items in the bin are counted and compared to expected values in the OpenEdge based ERP application. Any discrepancies are noted on the mobile screen. Several new Windows 2003 Server entries have been added recently. Mobile Printers Are you looking for a good printer to use with your mobile handhelds? We have recently tested and certified several printers here in the Jargon lab that we can recommend. Both have built-in fonts, which enables printing directly from Jargon Reader apps, and both can use standard 8.5x11 inch forms. The Syscan ZFP-3 printer uses tractor-fed continuous forms and connects via serial or parallel ports. It can be truck-mounted and is a good choice for delivery vehicles. The HP Deskjet 450C feeds single sheets and offers parallel, USB, fast infrared, Compact Flash, and optional Bluetooth connectivity. It is sleek and portable and makes a good choice for trade show booths, etc. User Community Have a tip or suggestion that you'd like to share with our readers around the world?
