Jargon Reader Mobile Demo - Download
Run
a Jargon Reader Handheld Demo on your desktop,
using our PDA Emulation software, which looks and
acts like a PocketPC device (Symbol, Handheld Products, HP iPAQ, Dell Axim etc.)
See applications perform real time database
access over the Internet from a (simulated)
wireless PDA using our server.
The Jargon Reader Deployment Engine works online or offline with most all modern back office systems. .
To run the Jargon Reader Handheld Demo on your
Windows desktop: Download a small (272KB) zip
file from
http://www.jargonsoft.com/demos/JargonReaderPDADemo.zip.
This zip file contains a "JargonDemo" folder with
3 files:
- the Jargon Reader emulation executable
(ReaderPDA.exe)
- a startup XML file
(ApplicationMenu.xml)
- an image file (logo.gif)
Save the zip file into a folder such as
"C:\Temp".
- Extract the zip file contents into
the same folder as in step 1.
Be sure that the unzip utility you use is
configured to create subdirectories as
needed.
- In WinZip make sure "Use Folder Names" is
checked.
- In PKUnZip a "Create Directories"
configuration setting is used.
- Other zip utilities have similar
options.
If extracted correctly, the unzipped files
will consist of the "ReaderPDA.exe",
"ApplicationMenu.xml" and "logo.gif" files in a
"JargonDemo" folder. For example, if you
extracted the zip file into "C:\Temp", the full
path of the ReaderPDA.exe file will be
"C:\Temp\JargonDemo\ReaderPDA.exe", and similarly
for the other 2 files.
- To start an Emulator session, simply
open the JargonDemo folder in Windows Explorer
and double-click on ReaderPDA.exe.
- If you want a desktop shortcut for the
demo, right-click on ReaderPDA.exe in
Windows Explorer and drag it to your desktop,
then select "Create Shortcut(s) Here".
Then right-click the new icon on your desktop
and select "Properties". Make sure the "Start
In" folder is the same as the folder that
contains the ReaderPDA.exe file in the "Target"
field.
If the "Start In" is blank, copy and paste the
folder from the Target field. If you do not,
the demo will still run, but you will get a
"cache" folder and a "cookies.txt" icon on your
desktop when you run the demo, and you won't
see our wonderful logo!
- The demo will start with a "PDA Demo
Login" screen showing a Jargon Software
logo at the top, if it is installed correctly.
If you do not see this screen, make sure you
are running the exe file from within the folder
that contains the xml and gif files.
- If checked, the "Use SSL" checkbox will
encrypt requests and responses from the
demo software to our www.jargonsoft.com web
server, using 128-bit SSL encryption over the
Internet. The Login and Password fields are
hard-coded for this demo, so you cannot change
them.
- Click "Login" to begin the demo.
This will bring up the "PDA Demo Menu". Click
on any of the buttons to run one of the demo
applications (see step 10 for notes on running
each demo). Clicking Exit will return you to
the PDA Demo Login screen.
- To end a demo session, click on the
"File" menubar choice at the very bottom of the
screen, then select "Exit" from the popup
menu.
- Note: ReaderPDA.exe uses a "cache"
sub-folder within the folder from which it is
run. This folder contains an
"ApplicationMenu.dom" file which holds the
latest state of the application login screen.
Each cached application that is run will also
create its own ".dom" file here.
When run again, the Emulator retains the apps
that have been loaded and run in a previous
session, using the information in these cached
app files.
To clear the cached apps, simply click
"Reset" on the PDA Demo Login screen. (The
magic word is "dba"). The confirmation screen
is to prevent accidents and help ensure that
users know what they are doing.
