Known Issues

  1. JAVA JRE 1.4 IS NOW SUPPORTED AND REQUIRED. At present, JRE1.4 is the only supported Java version. Use of JRE 1.2 or 1.3 may cause various serious problems including the inability to save files.

  3. Cut/copy/paste not verifying container/component eligibility.

  5. Need to prevent a component from occupying the grid space of another.

  7. Not able to reselect a component after selecting a grid-based container.

  9. Need to repaint component tree after a ListItem's text is updated.

  11. The ".$$$" backup file is not being consistently created (due to a file lock by the XML parser).

Build 197

New Features:

  1. Changed to use Java JRE1.4 and drop support for JRE 1.2.
  2. New "menubar", "menu" and "menuitem" component and methods.
  3. New "SetFontID" method to display text component values in bold font
  4. Component attribute "isVisible" is now implemented.
  5. Component method "SetVisible(true/false)" is now implemented.
  6. Fixed problems with opening and saving apps in script editor window.
  7. Blank lines are no longer added or deleted within scripts.


Build 196

New Features:

  1. New "passwordfield" component and methods.
  2. New "hyperlink" component and methods.
  3. Script editor listbox now shows all available methods for each supported GUI component.


Build 195

This build was not a full production release. All features and corrections in it are included in Build 196 above.



Build 194

New Features:

  1. New "image" component and methods for loading and displaying GIF images.
  2. New "http" component and methods for low-level HTTP request/response processing.
  3. Revised scanner methods for "symbol" component.
  4. New methods to set focus on textfield and textarea components.
  5. Local SQL database support using ODBC connectivity methods and objects.


Build 193

New Features:

  1. Revised Jargon PDA Emulator
  2. New Jargon Reader for Windows PCs
  3. New documentation files.
  4. "Missing Java" message during install now has URL to JRE1.2


Build 192

New Features:

  1. Source code generator for Progress 4GL.
  2. Jargon Reader PDA Emulator bundled with Jargon Writer to "Execute" PDA apps.
  3. Vertical scrollbar option on textpane and textarea components.
  4. New "symbol" global object and methods for barcode scanning.
  5. New "ser" object and methods for serial port and IR port input/output.
  6. New table method to populate a row at a time (client and host "setrowtext" methods)
  7. Border editor for panel borders (line border only at this time)
  8. Hidden table columns attribute (textcelleditor.isVisible)


Builds 189-191

These builds were not full production releases. All features added in these builds are included in the Build 192 description above.
 



Build 188

New Features:

  1. The global object "JSISystem" has been renamed to "sys". All existing scripts must have this change made to every occurrence of "JSISystem".
  2. Scripts are now contained within an XML "CDATA" section. This change can be made by simply opening and saving each xml file in this version of Jargon Writer, and the CDATA tags will be added automatically.

New Features:

  1. Added support for the table component and textcelleditor (table column) component, and related methods.


Build 186

New Features:

  1. Support for Palm Handhelds. Jargon Writer and Jargon Reader now provide native support for deploying applications on wireless handheld devices that run the Palm OS.

  3. New Scripting Engine. Client logic is now developed and executed in a scripting language called "ECMAScript". This scripting language is the standard on which JavaScript is based.

  5. Revised Documentation. The online documentation has been completely revised and updated, including the "Client Methods" document and to the installation documents.
Bugs Fixed:
  1. all bugs reported in Version 3 alpha and beta releases are fixed in this release.
