How to get an Apex4 (or Apex3) printer to work via Bluetooth on windows 8.1 tablet

1. Use Control Panel -> Printers and Devices to add a device:

This creates a device called "APEX4". Note the port assignment of this device:

Now, download the printer driver from:

https://www.datamax-oneil.com/do/com/en-us/home/support-downloads/downloads-drivers

Add a printer from the Devices and Printers page of the control panel and use the same COM port as you noted from above.

Finally, the printer probably needs to be configure for security settings that work with windows 8.1.

Doing this requires a cabled USB (or serial depending on the printer) connection.

Dip switch settings (under the battery) need to be set to put the printer in BT as follows:

To set Apex4 for Bluetooth Mode- All dip switches off except for switch 2

To set Apex4 for USB cable mode- All dip switches off except for switch 7

Finally, use the Cassini Configuration Utility to set the correct BT security for windows8.1.

Download the Cassini Configuration Utility from:

NOTE: Apex4 BT configuration .pdf attached to this kbase for details on how to use Cassini to set correct BT security mode.

NOTE:  If the security mode indicated in the .pdf does not work, then use  "Just Works"  instead:
